Forced Brevity

Isn’t it amazing how much you can accomplish when the deadlines are tight?

I’m in Calgary for the weekend with Lindsay, my go-to girl for all things Goose.  We’re only in the same city every couple months, and only for a few days at a time.  This weekend is no exception.  So we work with what we’ve got.  We typically take two months worth of work and cram it into two, 18 hour days.  Even then, we can’t possibly cover everything.  The tight window forces us to prioritize.  Knowing we won’t have another face to face “Thrash Session” (Thanks Seth) for a few months means we need to be very deliberate as to what’s on the table, what’s not, and how much time each area deserves.  It forces us in advance to realize what’s most important to our business.

It’s truly amazing how much you can accomplish when you give yourself a fixed deadline – especially when you have other people counting on you.  We all know that success in business (and in life) come from treating it as a marathon, and not a sprint.  But sometimes the mid marathon sprints are fun.  (and productive)
